Co-Ed Intramural Soccer Rules

COST
$50.00 per team entry fee. 

PARTICIPATION
Participation in the intramural program is voluntary. Wayne State University is not responsible for bodily injuries incurred while participating in intramural sports. Each participant is advised to carry personal health and accidental insurance. All participants are required to sign the Wayne State University Intramural release and roster forms prior to participating.

SOCCER GOALS
The first and last games of the night:  Each team is responsible for bringing out one goal prior to game and taking it back at the end of the evening.   They are to be picked up in Matthaei at the west door which is facing the tennis courts.  They are to be returned to that same door when games are finished.  First games, be sure to pick them up 15 minutes prior to game time!!

ROSTER
1. You must have WSU One Card and be currently registered for the Fall 2009 semester.

2. Team roster and release forms [PDF] must be turned in prior to first game.

3. Any new player must be added prior to game on Oct. 9th.  No one allowed after this point so if you think someone may play, put them on your roster just to be safe. Only players who are on the roster and have signed the waiver are allowed to play in the playoffs. NO EXCEPTIONS!!

4. Roster must include name, phone number, and I.D. number. Please bring ONE CARD to game so we can make a copy.  Everyone on your team must have a ONE CARD on file.

5. Must play in at least 3 games to be eligible for playoffs.

6. Players must check in with scorekeeper before each game and record their name on the clipboard.

7. A player can be on only one team.  The Supervisor will have all team rosters and waiver forms on the field. If wish to add a player to your roster, they must give their ONE CARD to the Supervisor to be copied and must sign the waiver and roster.

8. Second team listed on schedule is home team & must wear a white shirt: first team listed must wear black or specified team color.

9. Teams allowing participation of players who are not currently registered for the Fall 2009 semester or are not staff/faculty will forfeit any games in which the illegal player participates and will not be allowed into playoffs. Also, teams allowing other team members to play on their team will result in a forfeit.

PLAYING TIME
The game consists of two 25-minute halves plus additional injury time. Arrive early and finish warm-up on opposite field.

The referee is the official timekeeper of the game.  The game begins at the scheduled time.  Please have your line-up and players ready at the time you are suppose to play.

During the regular season, if the game is tied after regulation time, the game will be recorded as a tie. Teams earn 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and no points for a loss. In the event that a team forfeits, the winning team is awarded a 3-0 victory.

GAME TIME
Games are scheduled for 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, and after time change can be as early as 2:00, 3:00, 4:00 and 5:00 on Fridays. Times will depend on the number of teams registered.  Please watch the schedule carefully as the time changes weekly due to darkness.

MANAGER’S/COACHES RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manager’s/Coaches must be responsible for their player’s conduct at all times.

2. Make sure proper clothing is worn: no metal cleats, jeans, street   shoes, jewelry, etc. Sweats/shorts, T-shirts, rubber cleats are appropriate. 

3. Shin guards are mandatory for all players. Players not wearing shin guards will not be allowed on the field.

RULES
1. A minimum of 4 players (i.e., 3 plus a goalie) are required to start each game.  This can be any combination of male or female.

2. Games will consist of two 25 minute halves with a 3 minute half-time.  Additional injury time, may be awarded at the referees discretion.

3. The goalie is the only player allowed to make contact with the ball using his/her hands and arms while inside of the penalty area.

4. Out of bound balls result in a throw-in by the other team.

5. Any play judged to be “physical” by the referee will result in a stoppage of play with the referee making the appropriate call.

6. Any fouls committed within the penalty area will result in a penalty kick for the other team.  The goalie cannot move off the goal line until the ball is struck.

7. There is no offside.

8. All free kicks awarded by the referee are direct free kicks.

9. Yellow and red cards are given by the ref based on the severity of the infraction committed.

10. For every 2 yellow cards accumulated by a player, they will serve a ONE GAME SUSPENSION and be ineligible to participate in the next game.

11. Any player that receives a red card is immediately ejected from the current game and must leave the field.  They will also serve a ONE GAME SUSPENSION and be ineligible to play in the next game.

12. Any player that receives two red cards at any point during the season is automatically ejected form the league and cannot participate in any further games.

INJURIES
Participants are responsible for any injuries sustained while participating in the intramural program. Report all injuries to the supervisor. All individuals must sign the waiver form that states they are responsible for any injuries prior to any participation.

SPORTSMANSHIP
Intramural sports at WSU are for fun and in the spirit of clean competition. Rough play or verbal harassment will not be tolerated! Unsportsmanlike conduct towards fellow players, opponents, officials or supervisors will result in ejection from the game and possibly the sport season.

PROTEST
Protest will be settled on the field and the referee’s decision is final.  There will be no protests allowed concerning judgment calls by the referee.  A rule infraction may be brought to the attention of the referee. (Only by the manager/coach or captain of the protesting team).

FORFEIT
All games begin at the designated start time.  If a team is late, the missed time will not be added to the end of the game.  If a team is 10 minutes late, the game will be recorded as a forfeit. 

PLAYOFFS
Teams qualify for playoffs based on overall points accumulated during the regular season.  Goal differential will be used as a tie breaker. Points will be awarded as follows:  Win = 3 pts,  Tie = 1 pt.,  Loss = 0 pts. Top 4 teams from each division will make the playoffs.  5th and 6th place will play a consolation game.

RAIN-OUTS
On a rainy day, call the I.M. Office at (313) 577-4261 between 1-3 p.m. for cancellation notice. Games are generally not cancelled due to rain; only thunder, lightning, and poor field conditions.
