WSU Women Place Fifth at GLIAC Championship

At the Men's and Women's GLIAC Swimming Championships,the Wayne State University women's team finished in fifth place with 275.50 points. Northern Michigan won its fourth straight championship with 445 points.

Individual highlights included sophomore Natalie Herbert winning the 200 butterfly with a 2:12.80 time. Freshman Laura Sangret finished fourth in the 1650 freestyle (18:18.12) and junior Stacey Martin was sixth with a 18:49.04 time. In the 100 freestyle, freshman Tara Haggerty was fourth with a 55.02 time and freshman Stacy Butler was eighth (55.46). Senior Devon Stec finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a WSU school record time of 2:31.64. Freshman Michelle Golles was eighth in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.53).


WSU Records Continue To Fall
At GLIAC Championships

After two days of competition at the GLIAC Swimming and Diving Championships at Northern Michigan University, the Wayne State men's team is in second place and the women's team is in fifth. The GLIAC Championships conclude on Saturday, Feb. 24.

Individual highlight for the women include senior Devon Stec setting a new WSU record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.97, good for second place. Stec also finished in fifth in the 400 individual medley (4:53.18). Sophomore Natalie Herbert finished third in the 400 individual medley (4:47.34) and freshman Tara Haggerty finished fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:01.56).


WSU Women In Fifth Place After Day One

After one day at the 2001 GLIAC Swimming and Diving Championships at Northern Michigan University, the Wayne State men's team is in second place with 124 points and the women's team is in fifth place with 72 points.

On the women's side, the 400 medley relay team of Tara Haggerty, Devon Stec, Natalie Herbert and Meghan Mutch finished fifth with a WSU school record time of 4:12.01. Freshman Laura Sangret (St. Clair Shores, MI/Lakeshore) finished third in the 500 freestyle with a 5:15.55 time and senior Meghan Mutch (Novi, MI/Novi) finished 11th (5:30.25). Sophomore Natalie Herbert (Stoneycreek, Ontario) finished sixth in 200 individual medley (2:16.33) and sophomore diver Gena Rattray (Allen Park, MI/Annapolis) finished 10th in the one-meter diving with 255.30 points.

The championships will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 24.
