Wayne State Blanked At Niagara

The Wayne State University women’s hockey team lost a 3-0 decision at Niagara in its College Hockey America league debut Saturday afternoon (Oct. 26).

The first period saw the Purple Eagles outshoot Wayne State 11-8. Niagara got on the board first at the 10:39 mark when Lindsay Vine scored her second goal of the weekend off a scramble in front of the net.

The second period was back and forth with both goalies making several incredible saves to keep the score at 1-0 going into the third period.

Niagara started the third off with a goal, when freshman Amy Jack found the back of the net. Valerie Hall scored the final goal of the afternoon into an empty net with 1:33 remaining in the game.

Warrior netminder Anna VanderMarliere made 25 saves, while NU freshman goalie Breanne Doyle recorded the shutout for Niagara stopping all 20 Wayne State shots.

WSU is now 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the CHAW. Wayne State plays three road games next weekend beginning Friday, Nov. 1 at Yale.
