MILFORD, Mich. – The 10th ranked WSU women’s cross country team captured its second-straight team title and the men’s team ran to a third-place finish in the 8k race as they co-hosted the 2002 Michigan Intercollegiate Championship at Kensington Metropark on Friday, Oct. 11.

The women won the 6k race, finishing six points ahead of Grand ValleyState, who is ranked third nationally. WSU’s top five runners placed in the top 16 led by senior Shelly Vickery’s second-place finish and Amy Avervill’s sixth-place effort.

On the men’s side, Eastern Michigan, ranked sixth in Division I, won the team title with just 24 points.

Junior Mike Buslepp finished eighth and classmate Brian Goodwin placed 10th to lead the 18th ranked Warriors.

Both men’s and women’s squad now prepare to host the GLIAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Kensington Metropark.
