Warrior Women Finish Fifth At GLIAC Championship

The Wayne State women's cross country team finished in fifth place (127 pts.) at the 2001 GLIAC Championship on Saturday at Ashland University.

Grand Valley State won with 29 points, followed by Northern Michigan in second (53 pts.), Ashland in third (91), Hillsdale in fourth (97) and Wayne in fifth (127). Thirteen teams competed on the women's side.

Individually, junior Sherry Vickery (Berkley) paced the Warriors by finishing in eighth place (23:12.30), followed by sophomore Amy Averill (Detroit/Southfield Christian), who placed 20th (23:45.10).

Both the men's and women's teams showed vast improvements from a year ago as the men finished 4th and the women 7th in 2000. Next up on the schedule for the Warriors will be the NCAA Regional Championships on Nov. 3 in Kenosha, WI.
