Wayne State Defeats Ferris State Detroit, Mich. The Wayne State softball team (26-15 overall, 10-2 GLIAC) swept a non-conference doubleheader from Ferris State on Tuesday (April 23) at the WSU Softball Field. WSU defeated the Bulldogs in game one, 3-1, and posted six runs in the third inning of game two en route to a 6-0 shutout win.
In game two, the offense picked up in the third inning as Berry struck again with a two RBI double that scored senior Kelly Kashmerick (Flushing) and freshman Jenna McWilliams (Tecumseh). DAgostino would add an RBI double that scored Berry and put WSU up 3-0. Sophomore Lindsay Sammut (New Baltimore/Lakeview) put on the finishing touches in the third by hitting a three-run homer that gave the Warriors a decisive 6-0 advantage. It was Sammuts first collegiate home run. Junior Amy Thiede got the game two victory, improving to 8-6 on the year. Thiede allowed just three hits the entire game, while striking out two. Sammut went 1 for 3, while DAgostino finished with a 2 for 3 performance. The Warriors will return to action on Friday, April 26 when they host Lake Superior State in a GLIAC doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m. |
