Wayne State Earns All-GLIAC Honors

Detroit, Mich. – The Wayne State softball team had six players and head coach Gary Bryce earn GLIAC awards, which was announced by the conference office on Monday (May 6). Highlighting the honors was freshman Lisa Gauthier (Burton/Kearsely), who was named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year. Bryce was named the GLIAC Coach of the Year for the seventh time in his career and first since 1996.

Senior Kelly Kashmerick (Flushing) and sophomore Beth Berry (Blissfield) were named to the All-GLIAC First Team, while junior Connie Milroth (St. Clair Shores/Lakeview) was selected as a All-GLIAC Second Team pick. Sophomore Maria D’Agostino (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) and junior Betsy Kirk (Etobicoke, Ontario) were also selected All-Conference honorable mention.

Gauthier posted a 7-4 record on the mound in 2002 with a team-best 1.18 ERA in 17 appearances. Berry and Kashmerick finished one-two on the team and in the GLIAC in hitting with averages of .422 and .411, respectively. Berry also led the league in home runs (7) RBI (37) and slugging percentage (.639), while Kashmerick was the league-leader in hits (69), runs (42) and doubles (18). Milroth led the team with a 15-6 record and 68 strikeouts while compiling a 1.32 ERA.
