Warriors Swim Past Hillsdale

DETROIT – The WSU swimming and diving squads opened their GLIAC schedule Saturday, Oct. 19 with a sweep of Hillsdale College. The men won, 113-44, and the women defeated the Chargers, 116-85.

On the men’s side, Academic All-American sophomore David Lutz (Rochester, MI) won both the 200 free (1:54.19) and 200 backstroke (2:02.12) races. Fellow All-American Christian Erard (Troy, MI) won both of his events with wins in the 400 individual medley (4:26.86) and 500 free (4:59.38). Senior Scott MacDonald (Burlington, Ont) won the 100 free with a time of :52.61. The 400 medley relay team of Lutz, MacDonald, David Collins (Huddersfield, England) and Jeremy Landa (Huntington Woods, MI) ran away with the race in time of 3:48.96.

The Warrior women’s team was led by Tara Haggerty (Pleasant Ridge, MI) and Laura Sangret (St. Clair Shores, MI). Haggerty won the 100 free (:55.61) and 50 free (:25.49) while Sangret took first in the 1000 free (10:37.5) and 500 free (5:28.39).

Natalie Herbert (Stoney Creek, Ont.) won the 200 fly with a time of 2:17.55. Stacy Butler (Pinckney, MI) won the 200 free in 2:04.43 and Laura Lux (Alma, MI) took home the 400 IM (4:51.37)

The WSU 400 medley relay team of Lux, Herbert, Butler and Michele Golles (Dearborn, MI) won in a time of 4:18.56.

Wayne State will next participate in the Oakland Quadrangular on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.
